How we help
First and foremost, Jennifer views therapy as a journey in which she and the client walk together. Jennifer has been a successful therapist, not just because of her education and skill set, but primarily because of her focus on what the client is looking for and needing from therapy services. Jennifer maintains a flexible therapy approach so that the therapy sessions can be the most valuable to the client!
While clients can opt for traditional “talk” therapy in sessions, Jennifer specializes in art psychotherapy and EMDR. Therapy will give you the space to not only resolve previous barriers and emotional weights, but also give you the skills to address concerns in the future.
Art Therapy
Art Psychotherapy provides a variety of benefits to clients.
– For children, art-making can provide a natural method for processing current struggles including managing emotions or decision making.
– For adolescents, art-making often gives them “a voice” to express their perspective and explore their current or past struggles.
– Even for adults, art psychotherapy can assist in exploring coping strategies for life stressors or process life events in a non-verbal and safe way.
“A bird sitting on the tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings.”
EMDR Therapy
As an EMDR trained therapist, Jennifer can also integrate this approach into client’s treatment. EMDR stands for “eye movement desensitization and reprocessing”. While most popularly recognized as a standard treatment approach for trauma and PTSD, EMDR is effective at exploring and resolving many peoples concerns including those struggling with complicated grief, depression, and anxiety.
EMDR leads the client in exploring how past experiences contributed to self-beliefs, that may continue to negatively impact the way one sees or experiences current events or relationships. For example, if a client had a series of experiences in which they felt inadequate, they may be continuing to experience a sense of inadequacy in relationships and circumstances. Through a series of therapeutic steps, the client is able to identify more positive self-beliefs and find closure from past experiences.
